John, I set up my business Facebook fan page, tossed in some content, and now what? How do I get likes?
Well there are some steps that you can take to increase your “Likes” on a business Facebook Fan Page. First let me say that there are some 16,000,000 Facebook Fan Pages out there, so my initial comment is always, “How are you going to set yourself apart?” Below are 4 ways to help generate “Likes” and bring out the inner Social Media consultant in you!
- Add a custom landing page or “Tab”: The best way to generate more “Likes” is by creating a graphically intense, landing page. By doing so, you insure that visitors to your Fan Page land on something other than your “wall”. Use this page as your Welcome page or an interactive offer page, like these examples Coca-Cola and HauteLook. Yes, this is not an easy process, but by consulting a Social Media consultant or web designer, I feel you could come up with a cost effective solution that will help you drive visitors and create more “Likes”.
- Create relevant, interesting and consistant content: Social Media success is attributed to the same activities that a farmer completes each and everyday! A farm plows the land, plants a seed, fertilizes the soil, waters the ground on a consistant basis, and harvests his/her crop… There is nothing different with Social Media community management: we create a business fan page, create a robust profile to include images and videos, create landing pages, add a meaningful and consistant message, and collect “Fruit” better known as “Likes”. If Content is King, then Consistant Content rules the WORLD!
- Participate: Let me write this point again, PARTICIPATE! I have politicians that are afraid to digitally reach out and show concern and support online. This baffles me and I attribute this to ignorance. Today, power has shifted from traditional, slow media to a real-time online presence and we all need to be online, participating with our potential voters, clients, customers, etc. Through participation you can raise awareness, propose change, promote a product…sky’s the limit, not to mention that the customer service level increases exponentially through participation online.
- Promote your page with Facebook Ads: By placing an ad on Facebook, one can jumpstart a particular campaign, drive traffic through keywords, demographic data, and/or a category. Traditional forms of advertisement carries a very macro approach…throw 5 darts at the board and hope one sticks. Well Facebook paid advertising is different and very micro. A business owner that specializes in Washington Husky apparel can target only 18 to 40 year old graduates of the University of Washington that live within a 10 mile radius of the store locations! Now that’s targeting! By utilizing Facebook paid ads, advertisers can specifically direct their PPC marketing dollars in a more micro way than ever before.
I know that most business owners and politicians do not have a budget like Coca-Cola, but with well directed strategies that incorporate the four ways outlined above, one will be able to generate more “Likes” in a fast, very powerful manner virtually overnight!
